Inspection under Ultraviolet light shows minor restoration along the margins, to the upper background, to the dark area behind the Virgin, to the angel's faces upper right, to the lectern, to the floor centre. Denser restoration to the cloud on the upper right hand side and to the Virgin's blue drapery. Catalogue Note

Camilo was training as an artist just at the time Rubens arrived at the court of Philip IV. Camilo, along with artists such as Francisco Rizi, was one of the earliest exponents of the Rubens-inspired High Baroque style in Madrid, elongating the proportions of his figures and creating a sense of movement to enhance the expression of devotional tenderness.

X-ray is said to show a Circumcision scene beneath this composition.
