Condition

Laid down and window mounted. Light scattered foxing, more concentrated in upper half of the sheet. A tiny nick/tear at the left margin, towards the upper left corner. A few small tears at the lower right margin, three located at the level of Adonis' knee. Pen and ink remains fresh and vibrant. Sold in a carved and gilded frame.

Catalogue Note

A painting by Cambiaso of the same subject is in the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica - Palazzo Barberini, Rome.1  Two other drawings depicting the Death of Adonis are in the Louvre, Paris.2
