Window mounted so both recto and verso are visible. Overall in good condition. Some light brown staining both recto and verso. Staining more concentrated around the edges of the sheet. Small tear at the lower right corner. Chalk remains strong and vibrant.

Catalogue Note
Lalaisse taught drawing at the École Polytechnique from 1839 until 1877 and also made designs for lithographs. He was strongly influenced by Géricault, both directly and by way of his teacher, Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet, so it is not surprising that horses figure prominently in his work. The illustrations to the successful 1850 publication, Atlas statistique de la production des cheveaux en France, were based on Lalaisse's drawings.
