Condition

Both sheets are glued down at the four corners and sides. Overall they are in fairly good condition. The edges of both sheets are uneven and there are a few small tears/nicks around the margins Some light staining around the edges of both sheets. The chalk remains strong and vibrant. Both in modern black frames.

Catalogue Note

A pupil of Girodet, Deutsch exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1822 and 1837.  From 1818 he was professor of drawing at La Flèche, which lies not far from the Loire, between Le Mans and Angers.  Other drawings by the artist are in the Crocker Museum of Art, Sacramento, and the San Antonio Museum of Art, Texas.
