Condition

Laid down. Overall in good condition. Light staining around the edges of the sheet. Tips of upper right and lower right corners missing. Sheet relatively free from staining and black chalk strong. Sold in carved and gilded frame.

Catalogue Note

Dated by Rosenberg and Prat to around 1819-1823, the present work contains many of the facial characteristics typical of David's work from his time in Brussels, for instance the mouth with parted lips, also seen in lot 157.
