Catalogue Note

This study, surely a design related to an illumination, can be closely compared with similar drawings in the Uffizi which may well relate to the same project. This group, catalogued first by Berenson in 1903 and then by Degenhart and Schmitt as 'School of Fra Angelico,' includes three roundels of approximately the same size and media, also executed on vellum and stylistically very comparable to the present sheet.  The other two sheets in the Uffizi each include three similar medallions which have not been individually cut out.
