Description
- James Norie
- Arcadian landscape with figures beside a weir
- oil on canvas
Condition
The picture appears to be in good overall condition, with no extant damages or major loss of paint. The canvas has a fairly recent, firm relining which has slightly flattened the paint surface. The varnish is even and only slightly discoloured. There is one small loss in the lower right corner, measuring less than 1 cm, visible in the catalogue illustration. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals two campaigns of minor, scattered strengthenings: the older, mainly in the sky; the newer, largely in the darks of the foliage and in the foreground. There are also some light retouchings to a restored shallow scratch, measuring c. 20cm. by the centre left margin. In overall good condition.
Offered in a gilt gesso frame in very good condition.
