Condition
The painting is firmly relined and there are traces of good quality impasto in the fabrics. The paintings surface is secure expect for a diagonal crack by left shoulder measuring approximately 10cm as well as a small area of paint loss by each ear. There is a large repaired tear of irregular shape starting in the middle of the shoulder and coming up the back of his head. Additionally there are scattered repairs to the cloak. Under UV the painting reveals the areas and an opaque varnish. In good condition.
The painting is in a black ebonised frame with insects to make an oval. Frame in very good condition.
