Description
- Peter van Lint
- Bacchus, Ceres, Proserpina and Pluto
- oil on canvas
Provenance
Anonymous sale, New York, Sotheby's, 17 October 1997, lot 24, whence believed to have been acquired by the present owners.
Condition
The canvas has a recent and firm relining, which has resulted in a flattened paint surface. The colours remain strong and the details remain sharp. A slight discoloration to the clouds is noticable and retouching below the eye of the central figure is visible. A repair measuring approximately 10 by 10 cm is visible below the knee of the figure at the far right. Traces of frame abrasion can be seen around the margins. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals an uneven varnish and scattered retouchings to the sky. Very few scattered retouchings are present in the figures. Overall the condition is good.
This lot is offered in a simple wood frame.
