Description
- Isaac van Oosten
- Wooded landscape with sheep shearers
- bears initials lower right: D.T.
- oil on oak panel
Condition
The panel has been thinned and marouflaged onto newer wood. Overall the paint surface is thick and stable, and covered by a yellowed varnish. There are two horizontal splits, the first running 19 cm. from the upper edge, the second 13 cm. from the lower edge. Both splits have been carefully repaired but there are some recent tiny losses along the lower split. There is frame abrasion to the paint surface along the lower margin.
Inspection under ultraviolet light shows strengthening in the large tree trunk to the right, retouching also to the undergrowth in both lower corners, and as aforementioned, along the both splits in the panel.
This lot is offered in a carved gilt wood frame, very worn but structurally stable.
