Description
- Gaspard Dughet, called Gaspard Poussin
- A rocky Roman landscape with a hilltop town
- oil on canvas
Condition
In good, untouched overall condition. The canvas has a very old and effective relining that has not flattened the paint surface. The varnish appears even if a little discoloured. There are three tiny losses along the right margin which appear to be the result of some distinctive craquelure, but otherwise no visible damages. Inspection under ultraviolet light that there are barely any retouchings and that the varnish has been partially cleaned off, over the lighter parts and the hilltop town, the varnish that is left over the foliage and darker tones of the foreground and right hand side fluoresce opaque under ultraviolet light.
Offered in a modern gesso gilt frame with one of the cartouches broken off.
