Description
- Venetian School, circa 1700
- The temptation of Saint Anthony
- oil on canvas
Condition
The canvas is lined. The paint surface is stable and the varnish somewhat discoloured. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals scattered restoration and retouchings. There is a small 2 by 2 cm restoration in the foot of the Saint, and a patch of repaint in the dark blue of the female figure. There is a degree of retouchings to the flesh tones of the female and to the cherub bottom right. There are further scattered retouchings throughout and it is apparent under ultraviolet light that the varnish has been partially cleaned off the female figure.
Offered in a carved painted gold wood frame with gilt slip in good condition.
