Description
- Dutch School, 17th Century
- Portrait of a man, head and shoulders
- oil on oak panel
Condition
In good overall condition. The support is constructed of a single uncradled, flat, panel in good condition. The varnish is clear and even, the paint surface is stable with no major damages visible. Inspection under UV light reveals that the varnish is very patchy, having been partially cleaned. The varnish along the left third of the painting in the background, and along the bottom margin has been left, and fluoresces opaque. Also visible under ultraviolet are scattered retouchings in the dark tones of the background top left and a few in the collar, all seemingly to mask some minor wear along the gain of the panel. The man's face remains seemingly untouched.
