Condition

The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is covered by a very dirty varnish which is no longer effective. There are thin surface scratches, and scattered discoloured retouchings throughout the background. A small lost paint flake bu the lower part of the right margin. There is a large T-shaped tear in the left shoulder, measuring 15 by 25 cm., which has not been stitched up. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows a very old and uneven varnish; an old area of repainting in the lower right corner (6 x 6 cm.); recent repainting around the T-shaped tear mentioned above; and finally, small scattered retouchings in the background. This lot is offered unframed.
