The canvas has been relined. The varnish has discoloured, with the whites and fleshtones yellowing and the darks of the background clouding. This should clean well. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals very minor retouching to the cheek and forehead, as well as parts of the Madonna's veil. Overall the canvas is largely free of retouchings and, the discoloured varnish aside, is in reasonably good condition. The work is offered in a gilt molded frame in very good condition.
