Condition
The canvas has been relined, the paint surface is clean and the varnish is slightly discoloured. There are 3 small losses along the upper margin, left of centre, and a small surface scratch, lower centre below the yellow flower (visible in the catalogue illustration). There is some evidence of wear in local areas, mainly in the background, but the painting is otherwise in very good overall condition.
An opaque varnish makes it difficult to discern any old restoration. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals some very small, minor spot retouchings in the upper left corner, and retouching to a loss, measuring less than 1 square cm., in the white flowers, upper left. There does not appear to have been any other intervention.
Offered in a carved and molded gilt wood frame with foliate border, in good condition.
