Condition
Then canvas has been relined, which has resulted in a flattened surface. The paint surface is secure and quite clean, barring some discoloration to the flesh tones. This may be due to a dirty varnish and should clean well. Two repaired tears can be seen below the chin. The first is an L-shape and measures approximately 1.5 by 1.5 cm. The second is horizontal and measures 6 cm. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals and even varnish and very few small scattered delicate retouchings to the face, the sleeve and the background at the upper right. Overall the work is in reasonable condition.
The work is offered in a gilt molded frame in good condition.
