Catalogue Note
Jean Baptiste Huët is renowned for his pastoral landscapes and studies of animals. Here Huët has chosen to depict shepherds and farmers on their way to the animal market. This particular sheet shows the great influence that François Boucher had on the young Huët, especially evident when looking at the young boy and the profiles of the two older men who all appear to have been plucked directly from Boucher compositions. Huët combines the red, black and white chalks to great effect, producing a lively and animated country scene.
