Description

  • A gold-mounted lacquer boîte à portrait, Paris, circa 1780
  • horn, tortoiseshell, gold, mother of pearl
  • 7.9cm., 3 1/8 in and 6.9cm., 2 3/4 in diameter
circular, the lid inset with a decorative miniature of a lady en déshabillé and pearls in her hair, 19th century, striped overall, 'poincon de la maison commune', and a horn bonbonnière with piqué posé et point decoration, probably French, circa 1900, the lid inlaid with a gold, silver and mother-of-pearl urn of flowers, pellet-scattered ground, tortoiseshell-lined

Condition

1st: patch of restoration to lacquer on rim of lid and a smaller one to rim of box. 2nd: few minor vertical cracks to rim of lid and box, For all sales which take place on or after 1 February 2015, please note that the rate of buyer's premium for each lot (charged as a percentage of the hammer price achieved for that lot) has been revised and shall be calculated at the thresholds set out below: Buyer's premium is 25% of the hammer price up to and including £100,000; Buyer's premium is 20% of the hammer price on any amount in excess of £100, 000 up to and including £1,800,000; Buyer's premium is 12% of the hammer price on any amount in excess of £1,800,000.
