Description

  • wool pile
  • approximately 944cm by 382cm; 31ft. 1in., 12ft. 6in.

Condition

Measurements: approximately 384cm across the top edge, 385cm across the lower edge, 935cm up the left side, 942cm up the right side. The pile is generally even 1cm overall. There is flat weave end guards at both ends, which has been tucked underneath. There are sections of strips of white waterproof material stuck to the back of the carpet, which do peel off, but leave a sticky residue. There are exposed sections of carpet, including at the edges. There are two areas on the far right hand side within the side cords which have been pulled and split, and are therefore in need of attention. There are some further vertical splits of varying lengths, in the top left corner, and top right corner which need consolidating (pulling together). There is a section in the lower left corner, between the yellow and brown banded outer guards, which has three splits and the longest is 48cm. They need pulling together. There is an `L'-shaped split (approx. 4 by 4.5cm) in the lower right corner, right of the demi-lune corner of the main medallion, which needs attention. There are some grey surface marks, some small speckles, others larger irregular areas, for example within the central area of main field. This carpet is in need of some attention. Especially with regard to consolidating the splits and attending to some of the surface stains. It would benefit from a clean generally. Specialist Comment: This is a large gallery carpet in size and being muted colours of classical style is an attractive carpet.
