Description

  • Two silver-mounted snuff boxes, German, mid to late 18th century
  • wood, ibex horn, silver
  • 10cm., 4in. wide; 7.5 cm., 3in. high
the first oval, of Steinbock horn, the lid pressed with an ibex family, reeded and corded silver mounts, mark rubbed; the second of wood, carved and painted as the head of a man with protruding teeth and scrolling hair, the mounts chased with leafy rocaille, unmarked

Condition

Some time wear on first; the second in good condition with very slight paint loss to lips and shrinking of the cap so mount a little loose; chip to cap only visible when opened. For all sales which take place on or after 1 February 2015, please note that the rate of buyer's premium for each lot (charged as a percentage of the hammer price achieved for that lot) has been revised and shall be calculated at the thresholds set out below: Buyer's premium is 25% of the hammer price up to and including £100,000; Buyer's premium is 20% of the hammer price on any amount in excess of £100, 000 up to and including £1,800,000; Buyer's premium is 12% of the hammer price on any amount in excess of £1,800,000.
