Catalogue Note
This drawing, and lot 102, originate from a now dispersed series of representations of the months of the year (Davies, n° 529-539), identifiable by a distinctive number on the verso, inscribed in around 1700 by an unidentified collector. Everdingen made a considerable number of such series (see Davies, pp. 97-109), but this probably the most attractive and ambitious of them all. The drawings also have an extraordinary, distinguished provenance.
