Condition

The colours in this work have remained strong. There is some minor damages to the surface located in the background at the upper left hand corner. The inside of the glass is very dirty but this can be cleaned. The frame is in good condition.

Catalogue Note

Alexandrine-Sophie-Laure Roy naquit à Paris en avril 1799. Elle était la plus jeune fille du comte Antoine Roy et de sa femme Adélaïde-Sophie Barré. Son père, qui était avocat mais aussi Pair de France et politicien, occupa trois fois le poste de ministre des finances. En 1817 elle épousa Auguste-Frédéric de Talhouët-Bonamour, marquis de Talhouët (1788-1842). Eminent soldat, il s’éleva au rang de Maréchal.  En 1809 il reçut le titre de baron d’Empire. A la mort de son père en 1812, il devint marquis de Talhouët et en 1819, lorsqu’il mit fin à sa carrière militaire, il devint Pair de France. Le couple eut deux enfants, dont l’un, Françoise, épousa le onzième duc d’Uzès.


The sitter was born in Paris in April 1799. She was the younger daughter of Count Antonie Roy and Adélaïde-Sophie Barré. Her father was a lawyer, a peer of France and a politician, who served three times as Minister of Finance. In 1817 she married Auguste-Frédéric de Talhouët-Bonamour, Marquis de Talhouët (1788-1842). He was a eminent soldier who rose to the rank of Field-Marshal. In 1809 he was created a Baron of the Empire. Upon the death of his father in 1812, he became Marquis de Talhouët and in 1819, when he retired from military service, he became a peer of France. The couple had two children, one of whom, Francoise, married the 11th Duke of Uzes.
