Condition
This miniature has been very well preserved, there is a tiny amount of pigment losses just to the right of the signature at the edge of the ivory.

Catalogue Note
Madame de Mirbel, née Rue, tout comme Pauline Augustin ou encore Fanny Charrin, était l’une des grandes artistes de son temps. Elle se forma dans l’atelier de Jean-Baptiste-Jacques Augustin. En 1819, il lui est donné de peindre un portrait du roi Louis XVIII qui lança sa carrière. Louis XVIII ravi du portrait, la nomma peintre officiel du roi.
Le portrait que nous présentons représente un homme de la noblesse portant l’insigne et l’étoile portugais de l’ordre du Christ ainsi que l’ordre de Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.
