Condition

The canvas seems to have been strechted on three corners, therefore it does not appear regularly flat. It may need to be re-lined. Under UV light, a small repaint is visible on the upper right, as well as on the lower right where the signature appears. Please beware of the SaleRoom Notice.

Catalogue Note

Peintre de genre, d'animaux et d'oiseaux, Giacomelli était également collectionneur et bibliophile averti. Il se spécialisa dans la peinture d'oiseaux, multipliant les illustrations d'ouvrages d'histoire naturelle et réalisant gouaches, aquarelles et tableaux sur le thème d'oiseaux, très prisé à la fin du XIXème siècle.

Giacomelli illustre Le Monde des oiseaux indigènes et exotiques publié par Raphael Tuck et fils. Plusieurs oiseaux représentés dans notre tableau apparaissent dans cette publication.
