George Leonard (1729-1819) was from North, Massachusetts (in the southeast section of the state).  He was the son of Col. George Leonard and his wife, Rachel Clapp, whom he had married in 1721.

George Jr. graduated from Harvard in 1748, received an M.A. from Yale in 1753 and married in 1759 Experience White.  The Norton Iron Works was the base of the family fortune, but George worked as a lawyer and was active in politics.
