Catalogue Note

The original owner of this basket was Ann Matilda Haight (d. 1878), daughter of David L. Haight of New York. In 1825 she married David Piffard, an Englishman who had emigrated and purchased 600 acres east of Buffalo in the Genessee Valley, now Livingston County, New York State. Oak Forest, the Piffard Estate, still stands in the hamlet of Piffard, now part of the town of York.
