A LARGE CHINESE EXPORT PORCELAIN FAMILLE-ROSE ARMORIAL JUG 19TH CENTURY

Estimate

Description

  • Height: 7 3/4 inches
the arms of Hayes, Erminois

Catalogue Note

A tea service with these arms is illustrated in David Sanctuary Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, Volume I, p. 796, Y1. Hayes. That example was decorated in England on Chinese porcelain, probably by James Giles about 1760. However, the present piece, although bearing similar execution of arms, appears to have been decorated in China. The shape of the present jug suggests a 19th century date and that it was possibly ordered as an addition to the existing service.
