Catalogue Note

This expedition was led by Antonio de Córdoba in order to establish the best means for Spanish traders to reach the Pacific, whether through the Magellan Straits or around Cape Horn. An appendix to this account was published in 1793, which recounted Córdoba's 1788-89 return voyage.

To compose this account of the voyage Vargas y Ponce made use of the journals of Dionisio Alcalá Galiano and Alessandro Belmonte, both of whom later sailed to the Pacific with Alessandro Malaspina.
