folio (295 x 200mm.), woodcut title-page border dated 1553, woodcut initials, woodcut printer's device on final leaf (otherwise blank), Dd3 and 6 duplicated, early seventeenth-century Spanish blind-tooled calf with outer foliate border and inner border with a hunting scene, spine with title gilt in top compartment, a few deckle edges, early annotations in different hands (a few written in corrosive ink), ink stains on B1-2 and Q1-2, occasional worming, binding somewhat rubbed and bumped, joints cracked, lacking two pairs of alum-tawed ties

Catalogue Note
First published in Alcalá in 1543. Nuñez de Avendaño was a prominent lawyer from Guadalajara and the author of an influential hunting book.
The outer roll-tooled border is also found on two gilt bindings recorded in Penney, An Album of Selected Bookbindings (New York, 1967), plates XXV and XXVI, dated to Burgos 1605 and Valladolid 1626 respectively.
