Catalogue Note
Conestaggio's history on the Dutch Revolt was first published in Venice in 1614. The text was of interest to Peiresc because in 1628, Louis XII had commissioned him to investigate the claims of the French over the principality of Orange, which at the time had a Catholic population ruled by a Protestant, Maurice of Nassau.
