Catalogue Note

The music corresponds to the entire 4/4 section of Der Pfleger's solo, from rehearsal figures 181a to 184a (page 203-204 of the vocal score by Fürster of Berlin). The striking hammer motif, present in the accompaniment, appears as the main driving force for this music, with the vocal line laid over it.  There are gaps in the vocal line for two bars at the words "und das Werk verderben kann" and at the end.

There are several sketch-leaves for Elektra & Orestes's "recognition scene", written on identical paper, in the Austrian National Library, including for the passages at 149a-151a & at 203a-206a, which are dated to c.1908 (see RSQV ID q14119, q13652 and q14118). This leaf is apparently unrecorded.
