Catalogue Note

Suor Angelica, the second opera of Il trittico, received its premiere in New York on 14 December 1918.  The quotation is of the melody that appears in the heroine's main aria when she has an ecstatic vision. Mosco Carner judges this melody as "perhaps the finest idea of the entire opera and one of the composer's noblest inspirations".
