Catalogue Note

RARE: we have no record of autograph music by Ferdinand Herold (1791-1833), the composer of La fille mal gardée, ever appearing for sale at auction. He wrote this early concerto after winning the Prix de Rome in 1812, but it was only published much later, by Félix Mackar of Paris (c.1870-1880). There are incomplete copies of the edition in Paris (Sorbonne) and Rome (Accademia nazionale di santa Cecilia).  The autograph piano part was apparently not used for the publication.  The second movement is an 'Andante con violin obbligato'.
