Catalogue Note

The quotation from El retablo de Maese Pedro comes from the beginning of 'Cuadro II. Melisendra', set at the Alcázar de Sansueña (Zaragoza).  Melisendra is discovered leaning from the balcony of the Tower of Homage at the Alcázar, as Marsilio, the king, approaches.  Here the melody is given as a single bar in 6/4 time, whereas it comprises two bars in the published score.  The melody for the dandy in El sombrero de tres picos first appears at figure 8 of the introduction. This quotation is from the third movement, 'The Miller's Dance'; see the scherzando at figure 56, where this arrangement is played on the piano and wind.
