Description

  • Kokoschka, Oscar
  • Autograph letter signed ("OKokoschka"), to Kurt Maschler
  • Paper
looking forward with excitement to the proofs of the book, asking him to crown his work by asking his look-outs to inform him when he may expect the proofs, enquiring about translations, mentioning Edith Hoffmann, observing that it would be a shame if the book were not given the same circulation opportunites as any publication for a French or English artist would receive, noting the importance of Spanish and the fact that he has many supporters in South America, requesting him to see to these matters although they are time-consuming and not his responsibility, and enclosing a signed photograph [not included here] with his thanks for all his kindness

Catalogue Note

A characteristically dynamic letter to the influential publisher Kurt Maschler, who had started during the war a notable series of art books with R. H. Wilenski at Faber & Faber. The book whose proofs are discussed in the letter is apparently Edith Hoffmann's Kokoschka: Life and Work, published by Faber in 1947.
