Catalogue Note

A LARGE AND BEAUTIFULLY ILLUMINATED DOCUMENT, written on behalf of Francesco Marino Caracciolo, prince of Avellino (1631-1674), in his inherited post as Gran Cancelliere, which also gave him responsibility of the College of Laws in Naples; Francesco Marino was a posthumous child and therefore acquired the role at birth. The document states that Ludovicus Didacus de Mauro of Cava dei Tirreni has been examined and granted a doctorate in utroque iure, both canon and civil law.
