2 works in one volume, 8vo (168 x 103mm.), Oppianus bound first, eighteenth-century painted calf, spine gilt in compartments, blue edges, stubs of four pairs of ties (two on foredge, one each at head and tail), a few deckle edges, some annotations in Oppianus and in Greek on inside of lower cover, top half of upper joint broken, spine chipped at foot

Provenance

Ex bibliotheca Strothii, bought at public auction in Gotha in June 1786 by Augustus Borheck, inscription on title-page of Oppian. Friedrich Andreas Stroth (1750-1785) was a classical scholar and director of the Gymnasium in Gotha. August Christian Borheck (1751-1816) was a philologist and historian who taught at the University of Duisberg.

Catalogue Note

A TALL COPY OF THE EDITIO PRINCEPS of the plays of Aeschylus, edited by Gian Francesco Torresani, although two of the plays were conflated and it was only in the 1557 Estienne edition (see lot 2) that they were correctly set out.
