  • A collection of twenty-one letters by Philip II, Charles de Bourbon, the Count Palatine of Zweibrücken, Sixtus V, Francesco Maria della Rovere, Ottavio Farnese, Cesare Gonzaga and others, including
PHILIP II, King of Spain. Document signed, about the king of France and military matters, 1 page, four wormholes affecting text, slight loss along folds--SIXTUS V, Pope (1520-1590). Document signed, regarding jewels and precious objects, 1 page, folio, Rome, 21 July 1590--FRANCESCO MARIA DELLA ROVERE, duke of Urbino (1549-1631). Autograph letter signed, to Don Ferrante de Torres, mentioning Don Diego di Córdoba, Conde d'Olivares and the King of Naples [Philip II], attached by one corner to the verso of the same card as the Sixtus V document, 1 page, Pesaro 22 December 1586, signature affected by corrosion of ink in the paper--FARNESE, Ottavio, duke of Parma (1524-1586). Autograph letter signed, to the duke of Savoy [Emmanuel Filibert], 8 May 1572--GONZAGA, Cesare (1592-1632). Letter signed, 1 page with a paper seal on the conjoint leaf, Guastalla, 25 December 1616--FREDERICK LOUIS, Count Palatine of Zweibrücken (1619-1681). Autograph letter signed, to the Queen of Bohemia, 2 pages, Landsberg, 20 April 1661--BOURBON, Charles de (1566-1612). Autograph letter signed, to Louis XIII, 2 pages, Troye, 14 June 1611, small tear in centre and torn along central fold--DESBORDES-VALMORE, Marceline (1786-1859). Autograph letter signed, to a female friend, 6 January 1846, 4 pages, a strip of old tape along fold; together with: a note written on Cardinal Consalvi's behalf, regarding the tickets required by Mrs Austen, and a letter to Mrs Austen in Brussels, 1827; four letters relating to Mary Louisa Boyle (1810-1890, a writer and friend of Dickens) and her brother Charles; two vellum bifolia headed with the names of Perugia's five disctricts, with four or five names listed beneath each, the entries dated 1718-1801 (for further descriptions of these items, please contact the department); and a note relating to Baron de Posch
