Catalogue Note

Strauss's opera Ariadne auf Naxos, Op. 60, designed originally to be performed at the end of Hofmannsthal's adaptation of Molière's Le Bourgeois gentilhomme, was first performed at the Stuttgart Hoftheater on 25 October 1912. The present designs by Ernst Stern (1876-1954) were for the original production.
