Condition
There is some staining to the mount, but the surface of the photograph itself is relatively free of defects.

Catalogue Note
Dr Charles East was Elgar's doctor at the time he composed the "Enigma" Variations, which was begun shortly after he penned this inscription. See C. Kent, Edward Elgar: A Thematic Catalogue and Research Guide (2013) p.476n. East was also particularly important caring for Elgar at the time of The Apostles. See J.N. Moore, Edward Elgar (1984), p.489.
