Catalogue Note
RARE: autograph musical quotations by Kurt Weill are rarely offered for sale, particularly from his most famous work, The Threepenny Opera. We have traced no sale records for 'Mack the Knife'. This theme first appears in the Prologue to Weill's Die Dreigroschenoper, titled 'Die Moritat von Mackie Messer'. As the song concludes, a well-dressed man leaves the crowd and crosses the stage. This is Macheath, alias "Mack the Knife". This theme became a jazz standard in the recordings by Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and others.
