Catalogue Note
This is a fine example of the most desirable of all Gershwin musical quotations. Rhapsody in Blue established Gershwin's position as a serious composer when premiered in 1924, and has become arguably the best-loved work in the American concert repertory. At six bars, this is the longest quotation from the work that we have seen at auction.
