Condition

Oil on original canvas. The canvas appears sound. There is some slight rubbing to the edges of the canvas. There are some traces of very light surface dirt, most apparent in the centre of the red circle and around the edges of the white painted area. There are also some very light scuffs to the surface visible in the bottom half of the composition. There are areas of in-painting visible in the lower extreme right hand edge. Subject to the above the work appears to be in good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals scattered areas of fluorescence which suggest small flecks of retouching, apparent to the right and lower left areas of the white painted area. There are also several flecks in the centre of the lower circle and in isolated areas in the lower half. There are some light retouchings around the edges, most apparent along the right vertical edge. The area around and within the red circle, and along the division between the white and green areas also fluoresces, but this is thought to be inkeeping with the artist's materials. The work is presented in a batten frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
