Condition
The card appears to undulate slightly, most prominently in the upper and lower left quadrants. The edges of the card are uneven, and scuffed in places with several pinholes, thought to be inkeeping with the artist's working method. There are several very small losses to the painted surface, visible upon very close inspection, including towards the upper right horizontal edge, the centre, and the lower and upper left areas. There is some craquelure to the painted surface, most prominent towards the upper left corner. There also appears to be a slight scuff to the surface towards the centre of the lower horizontal edge. There is a slight discoloration or stain to the lower right corner. There is some surface dirt and studio detritus across the work.
The work is framed and glazed, housed in a painted wooden frame with linen slip.
Ultraviolet light reveals some retouching towards the centre of the left vertical edge, and a further area at both the lower and upper left vertical edges.
Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
