Condition

The figure on the right wearing the blue garment has minor spots of loss to pigment in her hair and two accretions on the garment, possibly inherent. Small faint white scuff marks are visible on the leg of the left most figure. This work is in overall very good condition, as viewed. Colors appear more saturated in print than in reality.

Catalogue Note

Shamshad Husain favored depicting proto-typical scenes featuring people throughout their daily rhythms.  This untitled work is typical of Shamshad Husain’s style of flattened figures with blocks of color, filling yet not cluttering the canvas.  Throughout his career, his depictions slowly evolved with time while maintaining the quotidian subject matter. Shamshad would consistently present people as actively taking part of their spaces and likewise having their environment reflected upon them.
