Sotheby's New York, 8 May 1997, lot 320

Condition

There is undulation to the canvas at top of work. Very minor craquelere is visible on the figure and intermittent losses to pigment in the work, notable in the right hand corner and the white areas under the blue houses and the top and bottom edges of the work, visible in the catalog illustration. There is a small paper patch in the lower right hand corner, also visible in the catalog illustration. UV light: This painting has been relined and areas of consolidation are visible under ultra violet light but these are confined to the extremities of the painting. This work was last in auction in 1997 and the catalog from that sale states that the work was signed on the reverse but has since been relined. There is a Chitrakoot Gallery label on the relined surface.
