Condition
Oil on canvas, unlined, unframed. The surface of the work is somewhat untouched. There is a web of crack a lower throughout the work and there are associated losses to this craquelure, especially in the figure at right, in the table at lower left, and in the background around the figure at left. There are scattered retouches that appear more matte then the rest of the work and are visible to the naked eye. There is also a horizontal line of retouching approximately 3 inches above the lower edge that has also discolored. Under UV light the previously mentioned discolorations for us as do some additional small scattered dots and dashes of retouching.

Catalogue Note
The theme of women lounging on a terrace was among Bridgman’s favorites. While the trio adorned in jewelry luxuriate in their multi-hued costumes, through the arcade a cityscape of white-walled buildings is seen before a wide horizon of sea and sky. This compositional format is similar to the artist’s Hour of Reverie exhibited in 1899, but the distant views depict a different urban landscape.
