Catalogue Note

Vittorio Amadeo III, Duke of Savoy was born in 1726 in Turin, son of Charles Emmanuel III of Sardinia and Polyxena of Hesse-Rotemburg. He was the eldest son of this marriage and was given the same name as a son from his father's first marriage who died in 1725. In the present portrait, he is depicted wearing the Order of the Annunciata, a dynastic order of knighthood that was founded in the 1360s by Amadeus VI, Count of Savoy.
