Condition

Oil on canvas, lined. The picture surface has been thinned from previous cleanings and the white-gray ground is exposed throughout the picture. These areas are particularly noticeable in the sitters forehead and proper left side of her face. There is a stable web of craquelure across the picture. The craquelure in the sitters face has been retouched and these retouching's up here later than the rest of the subjects face. Under UV light, the majority of craquelure in the background and the sitters face and white scarf has been retouched. The previously mentioned white gray areas in the background also fluoresce. The majority of the sitters gold dress and brown wrap remain covered by an old varnish.
